New Zealand has 5 listed species of Dove and Pigeon. 2, the NZ Pigeon and the Chatham Island Pigeon are endemic (only found in NZ). A related species the Norfolk Island Pigeon is now extinct.
3 other species of Dove / Pigeon have been introduced in NZ. The Rock (Feral) Pigeon from Europe, The Barbary Dove from Africa and the Spotted Dove from Asia.
