Penguins are probably the most unique grouping of seabirds. They have evolved to be flightless and very adapted to the sea. They are (almost) only found in the Southern Hemisphere. Usually in colder climates.
The oldest known examples of Penguin and precursor birds come from NZ. It seams most likely they evolved in the NZ archipelago.
NZ lists 16 species of Penguin; of the approximately 20 species found in the world. 5 NZ species are endemic and 11 NZ species are native (including vagrants).
