Yes still keeping up with the daily wildlife and nature photograph posting. In fact I'm getting comfortable with it. Which is a good thing as it means its likely to stay. I hope everybody is enjoying the regular updates.
Today's birding photograph is of Pied Stilt flying. Taken the same day as my last Pied Stilt photo (see link below) here on Auckland's Manukua harbour. If you look closely at the markings around the neck, you'll see they are a patchy rather than solid black. This indicates the bird is either a juvenile or or not breading this year. I suspect the former, but I'm not an expert on stilts by any means.

Abundance : Common.
Status : Native, protected.
Found in NZ: Mostly coastal areas around New Zealand. Generally bread inland.
Subspecies photographed : Himantopus himantopus leucocephalus. Subspecies found Philippines to NZ. |
