See another wildlife photo posted. I am actually getting back in to regular updates here on GCN. I do have to make an apology to all my visitors and those I normally catch up with online. Time hasn't permitted doing so as much as I'd like. I am however slowly catching up. My special thanks to all those who have and continue to comment on my work.

Today's photo is of Royal Spoonbill photographed last year on Auckland's Manukua harbour. Spoonbill are large almost heron-like birds with long flat spoon shaped bills. Unlike a heron they fly with their neck outstretched more like Ibis. They are relatively new natives in NZ, but their number have been increasing steadily and are probably well in excess of 1000 birds. This weekend we were actually lucky enough to be able to watch some feed not too far from where this photo was taken. Unfortunately not close to obtain any decent photographs; however very interesting to watch.

Found : Mostly Australasia.
Subspecies photographed : Platalea regia. Royal Spoonbill.

Excellent capture of these fascinating birds. Amazing how they stand on one leg like a Flamingo. The details and clarity are superb, beautiful image.

Thank you very much for commenting. Of course standing one leg is common among birds, but I hadn't thought of that resemblance before. :-)
