Tiritiri Matangi Island landscape photograph at night.

Something a little different again today.... except its similar to my last photo post. Another landscape photograph. This time taken at night on Tiritiri Matangi Island. This shot was taken from just the other side of the Tiri lighthouse photographed last year. I did have a completely different wide angle shot in mind for the light house this year, however once again the weather wouldn't play ball. So that plan will have to wait. I got this image while waiting for one of the many storms that came in at night to hit. I was hoping to get some more lightning photos. Of course the weather wouldn't play there either. Figures... Still I did get this little image. Its looking across the Hauraki Gulf towards the Coromandel.

Tawharanui landscape photo.

Quick post and something a little different today. Its a landscape snapped at Tawharanui, New Zealand last year. I've written about Tawharanui several times before. Yep its another photo found in the "to review" pile. Its on one of the north facing beaches whose name I forget. One thing I do remember about this shot is the temperature was about zero when this was taken. Not the nicest weather to be camping in.

high tension skyline wellington new zealand

So its about time for another photograph.
Today its a photo of a ridge line in Newlands, Wellington. Complete with high tension line.
The picture was taken around dusk. I liked the look of the silhouette, so fired off a couple of frames.
Proof you never know what you're going to get in an image. I'm pleasantly surprised how this has turned out.

Another shot from Taranaki.

Simple landscape of a little set of batches outside of Te Nau Nau, down Taranaki way.
I was trying to get as low as possible to take this shot while not drowning in the mud. Hehe was lots of fun.

Having looked at this picture for a while I wonder if I shouldn't have avoided the mud and cropped this photo a lot closer. Imaged with my Nikon D300 digital SLR camera.

GCN news: I head off to the US this weekend, so not sure when the next update will be.
Hopefully not too long. (Could even be this weekend, but will probably be more random than normal.)

Quick night-time photograph of the Taranaki coast at night.
The bight lights on the horizon are a drilling rig of some sort.
Taken outside of Waitara, Taranaki, New Zealand this weekend with my Nikon D300 camera.

Also I've been playing with HDR. Which is loads of fun. We'll see what comes of it.

Night photograph across the water

Looking back towards Devonport at night over the water.

Here's a nice little night shot looking across the water, down the coast towards Devonport from Takapuna way.
Taken last Monday night around 9.30pm.

There was actually a rather large looking fire in the same location as you can see in the picture that night.
I do have a photo, but want to know more about the fire before considering posting.

If anyone has any info please let me know.

A tripod was needed for this shot using Nikon D300 SLR camera.

Madison WI Week 1

Hi all. So one week down in the US of A.

Heres a basic recap of things so far.

The flight sucked. Was impossible to get any sleep.
Gee surprise the Qantas in flight system never worked. I have yet to that thing ever actually work.
You need sleeping pills. In NZ that means going to your doctor and getting a prescription. Theres nothing you can get over the counter thats any good.
Customs was simple. Very polite and easy. Other than them photographing and finger printing you.
My flight between Chicago and Madison was cool. At night, 30mins of looking out the window and seeing lights everywhere.
I got to Madison to find my luggage hadn't made it there. Very frustrating.
It eventually turned up at work on Monday afternoon. That meant having to buy toiletries, etc for the day and a half in between.
Turns out the security people had searched my bag and caused it to miss the connecting flight. What I find so frustrating is why didn't they just search it when I went through customs?
Even worse they broke one of the zips and because of how they re-packed things, bits and pieces got broken. I'm crossing my fingers that works insurance will cover it.
The jet-lag hit me harder than I expected and has taken basically the whole week to get over.
I'm really surprised by that. I expected I'd be over it pretty quickly.
Got to meet the whole team here. All round great bunch of people. Really enjoying working with everyone and getting to know people in person. It is strange actually meeting people face to face and finding how many things you had simply assumed, and were wrong about.
Went shopping with Sim and Marla to an "out-let mall". Picked myself up a heap of name brand clothing and a new suitcase at very good prices.
Brian and Todd taught me how to play Shuffle Board. Which is like a combination of curling and bowls on a table with a puck.
Spent Saturday drinking with people in a pub near Camp Randle while the first Badger game of the season was on. Was pretty cool to see sooooo many people walking around in red. All the general partying going on. The weather was awesome. I'm amazed I didn't get sun-burnt. Its nice to have an ozone layer.

I will get to some more general comments at some stage. This is more of a round up.

Its Lake Mendota, "The North Lake". Taken the first Sunday I was here.
(The 26th of August '07) You can see some damage on the shore due to high lake levels and general storms blowing in. Picture taken with my FujiFilm S5600 digital camera.

Last note : I get a 3 day weekend! Sweet.
