Picture of a New Zealand Bellbird feeding. Tiritiri Matangi Island, New Zealand.
[nz bellbird photo]
NZ Bellbird feeding on rosemary photograph.
See I promised there would be an actual NZ wildlife photograph post soon and here we go. Its one from this years trip to Tiritiri Matangi Island. The bird is a Bellbird and its feeding on a large rosemary bush that grows outside the Tiri bunk house. If you stay overnight on Tiri (which I recommend) the bunk house is where you stay. The Bellbird or Korimako, (sometimes Makomako) is like the Tui and Grey Warbler an endemic NZ passerine. These beautiful green and black birds have a gorgeous red eye, which can just be seen in the photo. There song in theory is quite distinctive, although I often get it confused with Tui.
Related NZ passerine bird photographs : NZ Pipit, Kokako, Tui.
This is digital photography post #31 for 2010.
